Episode 18: Top-09 Performance "Stevie Wonder Night"
Airdate: July 26th, 2005
Reviewed by: Ravin' Reviewer

Tonight we get a taste of the great Stevie Wonder. I hope that the contestants can live up to the music that he is so well known for. I myself am not a big fan although I do like some of Stevie’s songs. Let’s hope that our Top 9 can swing it. The Top 9 will be whittled down to the Top 8 tomorrow night at 7:30. I sure hope the judges are not wearing the earplugs they seem to wear so often!! Hey Zack, nice cowboy shirt…

01. Casey LeBlanc
Song: Heaven Help Us All (Stevie Wonder)
Rating: [******----]

This was not so good a night for Casey. It started out pretty weak and didn’t pick up at all along the way. She has a pretty little voice but I don’t find it has the power to get the song across. It was very boring and I give Casey 6 out of 10. Also I didn’t like her hair. It didn’t suit her face at all. She is so pretty and didn’t need it up like that.

02. Josh Palmer
Song: That Girl (Stevie Wonder)
Rating: [*******---]

As you all know I am not a big fan of Josh. He is kind of off the wall and I think the kind of singer that if you like him you really do and if you don’t you just don’t. Tonight I will admit was one of the better songs I have heard from Josh. It was a bit odd but mostly was listenable. Is that really a word? Anyway I think Josh tonight for me is 7 out of 10. Didn’t much care for the song but it was an OK performance. Hey cheap shot for the cowboys about the shirt.

03. Amber Fleury
Song: Lately (Stevie Wonder)
Song: Rating: [********--]

From the start I have been an Amber fan. She has such feeling in her songs when she sings. She puts her all in it. Tonight she has done exactly that. I will say I didn’t like that song either but she sang it will grace and meaning. It was slow and kind of boring as a song and I can’t say as I ever heard it before. She looked awesome tonight and that hair do suited her. Way to go Amber, keep it up. 8 out of 10 for Amber tonight.

04. Daryl Brunt
Song: Superstition (Stevie Wonder)
Rating: [******----]

Now what can I say about Daryl. I think he should go back and try next season or the season after. I will say it was one of his best performances but let’s face it can he really win? Come on people he just doesn’t have the IT factor or the voice to represent Canada does he? He’s playing a bit with the audience now and is trying a lot harder but still not enough for me. Good try though but he’s one of my picks for the Bottom 3 tonight. 6 out of 10.

05. Ashley Leitao
Song: Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder)
Rating: [********--]

Finally an upbeat song to wake us all up. She seemed a bit flat on the low parts of the songs. She was pretty good and the best so far tonight as in getting us tapping our feet. She is such a talented girl but this week songs are much to be desired if you ask me. It was an ok performance and she does know how to work a crowd and perform for the camera. Good job Ashley. And I agree with Zack on the clothes, need to get more in style for a young girl you age. 8 out of 10.

06. Rex Goudie
Song: Pastime Paradise (Stevie Wonder)
Rating: [*********-]

What can I say but he was spot on tonight. Rex is a great performer and has the ability to sing just about anything. He has such feeling and it definitely comes from deep within. His talent is tremendous and I believe he will win this competition. He has the look and he is so down to earth and honest. I think he would do us all proud in Canada if he became the next Canadian Idol. 9 out of 10. Zack must have had his ear plugs in cause that was a great performance. Nice glasses Rex!!!

07. Melissa O’Neil
Song: Living for the City (Stevie Wonder)
Song: Rating: [********--]

Great start, great look, great performance. I really liked it. She is one of the top contenders for this show. She has such beautiful eyes and pretty face. Loved the hat. I think the young girls could look up and admire her for their Canadian Idol. OH Zack Falls for Melissa? New headlines in tomorrow’s paper? 8 out of 10

08. Aaron Walpole
Song: You Haven’t Done Nothing Yet (Stevie Wonder)
Song: Rating: [*********-]

I have liked Aaron from day 1 and I still like him. He is getting much more confidence I think. That performance was awesome and he proved tonight why he was picked for the top 10. He looks good in his clothes and seems to be losing some weight as well. He’s definitely a keeper so get the votes in for Aaron. Finally the judges see what great potential he has. 9 out of 10.

09. Suzi Rawn
Song: Higher Ground (Red Hot Chilli Peppers; orig. by Stevie Wonder)
Song: Rating: [*********-]

Who knows maybe this year we will have a rocker for a Canadian Idol. She was fabulous this week as usual. She has such a distinguishing voice. I love the sound. She stands out and I think has so much talent. She knows how to work the whole situation, the people the camera and just has a blast doing it. I think she will be around a long time, to the end I believe.

In my opinion, the Top 3 are:
#1.Rex <= to win

And in my opinion, the bottom 3 are:
#9.Casey <= to go

I also predict the voters will agree with me and the one to go will be Casey.
