Episode 28: Top-04 Performance "The Music of Elvis Presley"
Airdate: August 30th, 2005
Reviewed by: Ravin' Reviewer

This week we have the fine music of none other than the KING of Rock n’ Roll: Elvis Presley. We’re in for a treat because the Idols will sing 2 songs each this week. Double the pleasure, double the fun I say. (A quick word about Casey LeBlanc leaving last week, we will all miss her but we know she will go on to do other things. She is a great talent and in a few years to come will maybe #1 on the charts.) Well the lucky Idols got to go visit Graceland this week and see where The King lived and played. I think it would have been nice to take all the Top-10 there because they all did such a great job. Maybe next time. Nice mirror Zack!

01. Aaron Walpole (1)
Song: (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [*******---]

This is one of Elvis’s great songs and I think everyone will know it. I first thought what a great choice for Aaron but now that it is done I think not. It was a little harsh on the low notes but as it went on it did get somewhat better, Aaron has wowed us with so many good tunes that I am a little disappointed this week. Overall it was just ok for me. I give him 7 out of 10 for this. I agree with Zack on this one. Maybe the next song will be better for Aaron.

02. Suzi Rawn (1)
Song: Heartbreak Hotel (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [*******---]

I believe Suzi should rock with this song as it suits her voice. She looked great but I will agree with Zack again that Suzi looks tired and doesn’t have that zap, that energy that she usually has. In parts it was really weak and vocals were slightly off but it was not bad. Maybe the trip to Graceland tired our Idols out. 7 out of 10.

03. Melissa O'Neil (1)
Song: A Little Less Conversation (Elvis Presley, sounded like Junkie XL = JXL Remix)
Song: Rating: [*******---]

I guess that Melissa isn’t reading my reviews because she has the same dresser that she has had all season. Please Melissa dress your age and get a little funky and up to date. You’re only young so get with it. Now, the performance was a little low and slow to start with. Overall it was pretty good but to me it’s really hard to sing Elvis and do it right. She always looks like she is having a great time and I like that. 7 out of 10 for this one and a 5 for the dress.

04. Rex Goudie (1)
Song: Blue Suede Shoes (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [********--]

I can totally see Rex with this song and when I saw the songlist I knew it would be his. It's an upbeat tune and kind of suits his personality. He tried to dance but we know that Rex is a little stiff and doesn’t seem flexible, but he is trying so points for that. The vocals weren’t his best but were a lot better then anyone else so far. I give him 8 out of 10. Nice remark from Farley about the “Elvis Pretzel”.

05. Aaron Walpole (2)
Song: Love Me Tender (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [********--]

I really am at a loss for words with Aaron tonight. It was a bit of a sleeper song to me. It was pitchy and out of tune quite a bit and just didn’t do anything for me. I am sorry Aaron but tonight just wasn’t your night. 8 out of 10. He looked great in that suit so points go to him for that and he does play with the camera and I believe he is better than he was this week.

06. Suzi Rawn (2)
Song: Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [*******---]

Well Suzi this week was not a great one for any of the idols but this was a bad time for you. The singing was really off in a lot of it. Your dress was just NOT you at all and I think was terrible. I wish you had chosen a different song but you didn’t so I think 7 out of 10 is all I can give for that. I hope to see you next week but have my doubts.

07. Melissa O'Neil (2)
Song: You'll Never Walk Alone (Elvis Presley)
Song: Rating: [********--]

Well Melissa somewhat redeemed herself in this song. The vocals were great and I think she did a good job. Dress has to go of course. The performance was one of the best so far: 8 out of 10. See you next week, Melissa.

08. Rex Goudie (2)
Song: If I Can Dream (Elvis Presley)
Rating: [********--]

Well of all the Idols tonight it’s a tie between him and Melissa’s last song. It was a good performance and I am sure Rex will be here next week. It's getting down to the final 3 and I believe Rex is still my choice to win. He’s got it all, so way to go Rex! Next week I hope all the Idols get back into shape and kick some A$$.

In my opinion, the Top-2 are:
#1. Rex Goudie
#2. Melissa O’Neil

Bottom-2
#3. Aaron Walpole
#4. Suzi Rawn <= to go
